Join handstand Coach and Mobility Specialist Elise Ingenito for a 2-hour beginner workshop that focuses on the fundamentals of hand balance with an emphasis on mobility and end range strength.
This beginner workshop will cover the basics of hand balance, including how to safely get upside down, what proper alignment looks AND feels like, wrist preparation and a number of mobility and strengthening drills you can take home with you. Mobility plays a crucial role in hand balance. You will learn how to increase your active range of motion using Stretch Therapy and FRC principles – the key to advancing your handstand practice.
We’ll go through all the setup necessary for injury-free hand balancing from wrist prep, strengthening and stretching drills and proper body alignment. We’ll also go through basic entries, how to bail out or “fall” safely and how to spot your partner. Learn strengthening and balancing drills that will allow you to work towards a freestanding handstand.
In order to maximize our handstand work, we’ll be placing equal importance on mobility. As a Certified Stretch Therapy Teacher, Elise will introduce you to Kit Laughlin’s Stretch Therapy protocol. You’ll learn about, and put into practice, PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching, also known as the Contract-Relax approach. Using specific breathing and relaxation techniques, you will learn how to connect the mind to the body allowing for greater ranges of motion.
Building upon the Stretch Therapy work, we will learn how to increase strength in our newly acquired ranges using the FRC system. Gain body control, bullet-proof your joints and maximize your movement potential with end range strength training exercises such as CARs (Controlled Articular Rotations) and PAILs and RAILs. Get ready to dive deeper into the movements, the theories and the practice of full body mobilization.
The goal of this workshop is to leave you with the tools needed to continue to develop balance, strength and mobility for your hand balance journey!

Kids of all Ages can join us on October 19th 3-4:15pm in their Halloween Costumes. We will explore Yoga Games, Poses and Relaxation along with creating a "Mindfulness Jar" to take home.
About Mindfulness Jars: When the glitter jar is unshaken, the glitter is settled peacefully at the bottom of the jar. The glitter can represent thoughts. When we’re feeling angry or upset (shake the bottle), thoughts then swirl around and the mind is cloudy. Once the glitters settles, it is once again clear just as once thoughts settles the mind is once again clear. Noticing, the glitter always settles. And as you watch the glitter settle, notice the mind settling too. When the glitter returns to the bottom of the jar, you will feel more calm and can think more clearly.
This restorative class uses hammocks along with other props to create a gentle invitation for the body to relax, let go, and surrender. This class is extremely beneficial to all students but especially those with compression injuries. By surrendering the hammock, new space will be created within the body. This restorative class will end with a floating savasana with singing bowl meditation.
Aerial Yoga joins traditional yoga and aerial hammocks creating an integrated practice using the hammock to partially or fully support the body in traditional yoga postures. No experience is necessary, all students are welcome.
Aerial yoga classes flow between floor and aerial postures promoting strength, power, freedom, relaxation and grace.
